Both are impressed along the lower edge with the H E & Co maker’s marks together with EP, indicating electroplate.

Beautiful Neoclassical design featuring tall fluted columns, ornate Corinthian-style capitals, beaded borders, and large square stepped bases decorated with classical urn, swag, and foliate motifs.

Each candlestick measures approximately 14.25 inches high, with a 5.5 x 5.5 inch square base.

Please note the construction at the tops differs between the two candlesticks. The candlestick on the left has a removable bobeche/drip pan, while the bobeche on the right appears to be fixed in place. The removable bobeche also appears somewhat smaller than the fixed example. I cannot determine whether this difference is original or represents an old alteration or replacement, so please refer closely to the photographs.

Both are offered in estate-fresh, unpolished condition, retaining an attractive aged surface and patina. There is tarnish, oxidation, scratching, discoloration, and areas of silver-plate wear/loss consistent with their considerable age and use. The bases show particularly attractive areas of blue, gold, and copper-toned oxidation. Undersides retain old coverings with expected age and wear.

A very decorative and substantial pair of 19th-century Sheffield silver-plated candlesticks, standing over 14 inches tall and displaying beautifully despite their age-related differences and wear.
