Antique 1896 W.H. Grindley Flow Blue 12.5" Oval Platter - Marechal Neil Pattern
Made in Staffordshire England c. 1896.
Approx. 1 1/4" High x 12 1/2" Long x 9" Wide.
Beautiful, genuine late-Victorian ironstone serving platter manufactured in 1896 by the renowned English pottery W.H. Grindley & Co.
This piece features the highly collectible "Marechal Neil" pattern, showcased in a deep, rich cobalt blue transferware design. The pattern displays gorgeous, romantic floral and grapevine motifs cascading down the scalloped edges of the rim.
The back of the platter is fully marked with the official W.H. Grindley globe-and-steamship trade crest, along with the distinct "F.B" (Flow Blue) mark. The base also features an impressed mold number "38," a hand-painted blue potter's tally mark "32," and original historic kiln stilt marks.
Excellent used antique condition. No chips, cracks, structural damage, or repairs. Structurally sound vintage condition with no cracks, chips, or major restorations. It shows wonderful authentic character from over 130 years of age. The clear top glaze shows extensive historic cutlery scratches from functional dining use. The cobalt blue transfer print features beautiful, authentic bleeding (flow effect) into the cream background.
