Di Viccaro’s principal subjects are Italy’s Amalfi and Sorrento coasts, Positano, Capri/Ischia, Portofino, Venice, villages, seascapes, and sunlit harbor scenes. His recognizable technique is heavy, energetic application of oil with a palette knife/spatula, producing raised texture, sharp color planes, bright water, and luminous buildings.
He is sometimes described as an “Italian premier palette-knife artist,” but that is dealer marketing rather than a museum-ranking designation. He has an established decorative and gallery market.
