Moses Soyer (1899–1974) was born in Borisoglebsk, Russia, emigrated to the United States with his family in 1912–13, and became a major New York figurative realist. He studied at Cooper Union, the National Academy of Design, the Ferrer Art School, and the Educational Alliance; his teachers included Robert Henri and George Bellows.
His work is held by major institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Hirshhorn Museum. See less
