The dish features delicate hand-painted purple and white columbine flowers set against a softly shaded pale green and ivory ground. Detailed blossoms, buds and foliage give the piece a graceful botanical quality.

The shaped porcelain dish is finished with elegant pierced handles accented in gold, along with fine gilt detailing around the edges. The combination of soft coloration, botanical decoration and unusual handled form makes this a particularly lovely example of Austrian decorative porcelain.

The underside bears a crowned double-shield porcelain maker’s mark with “AUSTRIA” beneath. Based on the style of the mark and decoration, the piece dates to approximately circa 1900. The specific manufacturer has not been definitively identified.
