This 1970s Lane Staccato china cabinet is one of the more graphic designs the company produced, built around the collection's signature block work. Squared walnut blocks are arranged in staggered relief across the lower cabinet doors and the tall right hand door of the upper case, each block set at a slightly different depth so the fronts break up light and shadow across the surface. The remaining walnut is left plain in deliberate contrast, with wide flowing grain running across the drawer fronts and the case sides. A recessed plinth base grounds the lower cabinet, and the upper case steps back slightly where it meets the buffet top.
Built as two separate cases, the cabinet works as a buffet on its own or as a full china cabinet with the hutch in place. The upper case pairs a glass fronted display section, fitted with glass shelves and an interior light, with an enclosed compartment behind the block front door. Below, two long drawers run through the center of the buffet with a cabinet door at either end, dividing storage between flat space for linens and flatware and deeper enclosed space for serving pieces. Recessed wooden pulls sit nearly flush with the drawer fronts so the walnut runs uninterrupted.
