A spectacular and exceptionally sculptural matching pair of Casual Lamps of California table lamps, dated 1990, combining monumental textured plaster forms with substantial clear Lucite bases.
These are lamps that function as sculpture as much as lighting.
Each lamp features a dramatic architectural body composed of deeply textured white plaster with projecting geometric forms that create extraordinary depth, shadow and movement. The design changes dramatically depending on the viewing angle; viewed from above, the projecting elements create an almost starburst-like architectural composition.
The massive plaster forms appear to float above substantial clear Lucite/acrylic plinth bases, creating a beautiful contrast between the visual weight and texture of the plaster and the transparency and geometry of the bases.
Metal hardware and clear Lucite finials complete the design.
The lamps are marked Casual Lamps and dated © 1990.
Casual Lamps of California is known in the vintage design market for bold sculptural lighting incorporating plaster, Lucite and architectural forms. This matching pair is particularly impressive because of its monumental scale, dimensional construction and survival as a pair.
Each lamp measures approximately:
35" H × 17" W × 13" D
They are substantial, heavy lamps with tremendous presence in person.
I purchased these because I immediately fell in love with them. Imagine them flanking a large console, credenza or fireplace, or used on substantial bedside tables in a dramatic Postmodern, Brutalist, contemporary or eclectic interior.
Both lamps have been tested and work perfectly.
Due to the substantial weight, size and sculptural plaster construction of these lamps, they require specialized packing for shipment.
If shipping is required, each lamp will be professionally packed separately in its own box and double-boxed for additional protection. Professional packing, insured shipping and associated costs are at the buyer's expense.

Good vintage condition with age-related wear and imperfections. Importantly, each lamp has one small area of plaster loss/damage, both of which have been deliberately photographed in close detail and are shown clearly in the listing photographs. The textured plaster surfaces also show accumulated dust, marks, discoloration and age-related surface wear. These lamps would benefit from professional cleaning. The clear Lucite/acrylic bases show age-related scratches, marks, residue and surface wear. Metal components show oxidation, patina and wear consistent with age. We have intentionally not attempted aggressive cleaning, repainting, filling or restoration. Given the sculptural plaster surfaces, we prefer to leave any professional cleaning or conservation to the next owner. Despite these cosmetic imperfections, the pair displays beautifully and both lamps are fully functional. Shades are not included. Please examine all photographs carefully. Detailed photographs of the condition, areas of plaster loss, Lucite bases, hardware and maker/date marks are included and form an important part of the description. Sold as is. No returns.
