Patent-stamped oak and cast iron coat stand with pierced scrollwork arms and turned post construction. Labeled by the Udell Works of Indianapolis on a brass plaque, this inventive form (patented June 23, 1891) is referred to in its original casting as a "Toilet Tree," a multifunctional stand meant for coats, hats, and accessories. The central column features boldly turned oak segments with lathe-ridged shaping, culminating in a round finial. Four tiers of cast iron hook assemblies wrap the shaft, each offering triple-prong functionality and looped pierced extensions with decorative flair. The tripod base is forged entirely of ornate cast iron, continuing the looped perforation motif and lending sturdy balance and visual weight.

Udell Works was a prominent Indianapolis manufacturer known for furniture and church fixtures, particularly recognized for their patent folding desks, cabinets, and hall stands during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. See less
