c. 1840s-1860s; Seth Thomas Clock Company - Plymouth Hollow, CT
Empire-style column clock with reverse-painted floral tablet and stenciled gilt columns.
This striking mid-19th century shelf clock blends neoclassical lines with decorative folk charm. The painted wood case is finished in a faux mahogany grain, flanked by stenciled columns with gold and mustard swirls and turned gilt capitals. Its upper tablet features a crisp strawberry motif surrounded by floral sprays, while the lower door bears a reverse-painted patriotic emblem flanked by spears and a ribbon banner reading "SARATOGA." The Roman numeral dial and mechanical movement are visible behind the upper glass panel.
