Finely handwoven in Western Persia, this exceptional example features an intricate allover Herati pattern gracefully arranged across a deep navy field, complemented by design accents in green, red, and ivory, the composition beautifully framed by a rust-red border displaying geometric motifs. The Farahan district of Western Persia gave birth to two of the most celebrated rug traditions of the 19th century — the classic Farahan village rug and the refined Sarouk Farahan, which represented the pinnacle of the region's weaving achievement. The Sarouk Farahan is distinguished by its ivory or light-colored fields adorned with graceful curvilinear floral designs, its extraordinarily fine weave, and the exceptional quality of its vegetable-dyed wool — qualities that have made these rugs among the most coveted antique Persian textiles in the collecting world.
