The … Read more A beautiful and unusual late 19th-century Haviland & Co. Limoges porcelain tray featuring an exceptionally delicate hand-painted botanical composition.

The shaped rectangular porcelain tray has a soft powder-blue ground decorated with large white orchids accented in deep plum, muted green, and extensive hand-applied gilt detailing. Fine botanical foliage surrounds the central flowers, while an intricate gilt border follows the gracefully scalloped edge.

The reverse bears the green H&C / L porcelain mark associated with Haviland & Co. of Limoges, France. It is additionally hand-signed in gilt by its decorator, appearing to read “Sophie W. [surname]”, accompanied by a handwritten date or number.

The combination of the early Haviland porcelain blank, individual artist's signature, sophisticated floral painting, and extensive gilding gives this piece wonderful decorative and collectible appeal.
