This impressive antique German cut crystal and 800 silver vase is a beautifully substantial example of Continental craftsmanship, combining brilliantly hand-cut glass with a remarkably thick silver mount. Elegant in proportion yet exceptionally weighty in the hand, it has the quality and presence of a true luxury decorative object.
The crystal body is richly decorated with an intricate arrangement of deep geometric cuts, cross-hatching, elongated facets, and dramatic radiating starburst motifs. The lower portion is particularly striking, with its large deeply cut star and fan pattern creating an almost jewel-like effect. As light passes through the numerous facets, the vase produces wonderful flashes and reflections, making it especially beautiful when positioned near a window, lamp, or candlelight.
Finishing the top is an unusually substantial one-inch-high silver collar, stamped “800” for 800/1000 silver purity. Rather than a narrow decorative band, the generous silver mount forms an important part of the vase's design, providing a handsome contrast between the cool polished metal and sparkling crystal below. Its thick construction further emphasizes the quality of the piece.
The vase has an impressive total weight of approximately 2 pounds 8 ounces, giving an indication of the considerable amount of heavy crystal used in its construction. It measures approximately 9.5 inches high, 4.5 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep, with the silver collar itself measuring approximately 1 inch high. Good antique condition, there are a few small edge chips that require close inspection to see. There is some clouding on the inside base. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
Beautiful displayed on its own, the vase becomes particularly dramatic when filled with roses, hydrangeas, or other fresh flowers, where the rich colors of the arrangement contrast beautifully against the brilliant crystal and silver. Its timeless form would complement an English Country interior, traditional library, formal dining room, or collection of antique Continental silver and glass.
A sophisticated and highly decorative antique combining German cut-crystal artistry, substantial 800 silver, impressive weight, and exceptional light-catching brilliance—a piece that has tremendous presence whether used as a flower vase or displayed simply as an elegant object of art.
