A wonderfully decorative vintage French equestrian award plaque from the 1981 Departmental Agricultural Competition in Sarthe, France. Cast in relief with an ornate green and gold finish, the plaque was awarded 1st Prize in a Percheron mare class.
The raised French inscription reads:
“Concours Agricole Départemental de la Sarthe – 1981
Race Percheronne
Juments
7 Section Bis
1er Prix”
Loosely translated, it commemorates the 1981 Sarthe Departmental Agricultural Competition, Percheron breed, mares, 7th Section Bis, First Prize.
Adding wonderful provenance, the reverse is hand-lettered in blue with the name “TRIGER,” the name of the winning horse. The handwritten identification gives the piece the character of a true working agricultural and equestrian award rather than a later decorative reproduction.
The plaque has an elaborate shaped border with scrollwork, floral and foliate motifs, and raised lettering highlighted in gold against a deep green ground. A small hole at the top allows it to be displayed on a wall.
A distinctive piece for a French country interior, equestrian collection, tack room, library, study, farmhouse kitchen, or gallery wall. It would also make an unusual gift for a Percheron enthusiast or collector of vintage horse memorabilia.

The reverse shows considerable surface scratching and wear and retains the original handwritten name “TRIGER” in blue. These signs of use and age are consistent with its history as an authentic agricultural competition award. Please review photos closely for condition. less
