A coordinated gallery of six original 1828 French hand-colored lithographs by Jean-Charles Werner (1798–1856), depicting eagles, vultures, a kite, falcon, and owl. Presented together as a complete six-piece collection, each antique lithograph has been individually conservation matted and framed to create a substantial, ready-to-hang natural-history installation.

ARCHIVAL PRESENTATION
Each lithograph has been individually triple matted using conservation-grade archival materials, with the presentation designed specifically for the long-term preservation of antique works on paper. The original sheets are secured without adhesive contact, allowing them to remain intact and removable while avoiding irreversible alteration to the paper. This preservation-first approach protects both the physical integrity and collectible value of the works while giving the six pieces a cohesive, finished gallery presentation.

ABOUT THE WORKS
Jean-Charles Werner (1798–1856) was an accomplished French painter and natural-history illustrator associated with the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris, one of the leading centers of zoological research and scientific collecting in 19th-century Europe. Period bibliographic records identify Werner as a painter attached to the museum, and his work appeared in important ornithological publications of the era.
Among his major contributions was the extensive suite of 111 lithographed and carefully colored plates for Alexandre Bourjot Saint-Hilaire’s Histoire naturelle des perroquets, published in the 1830s as a continuation of Levaillant’s celebrated work on parrots. Werner’s illustrations are distinguished by careful anatomical observation, expressive posture, restrained use of color, and an unusual ability to give scientific subjects genuine visual presence.
Created in 1828, this group of six raptors dates from relatively early in Werner’s career and demonstrates the combination of scientific observation and refined draftsmanship that would characterize his later ornithological work. Retaining their original French species titles and printed credits, the six lithographs form an especially compelling survey of birds of prey by an artist closely connected to the flourishing of French natural-history illustration in the first half of the 19th century.
