The key identifying features are the three small drawers across the top, two paneled doors below, decorative panel framing around the doors, and the characteristic stepped base/foot design.

The warm honey-brown grain pattern is consistent with northern Chinese elm (yumu) — one of the most commonly used hardwoods for Chinese country furniture. The visible wood grain is beautiful and is in very good natural condition in the original finish.

The piece is in excellent condition — no visible major cracks, repairs, or damage. The wood has a lovely aged patina.

This was purchased at the antique store Great Stuff by Paul in Frederick, an eclectic international import warehouse.

The furniture piece still has a red wax seal on the back showing it was imported legally. It has been illegal in China since 2009 to export any pre-1900 Chinese antiques. Pieces like this cannot be imported anymore and this makes this a very valuable and unique find. See less
