A fluted spike crowns the piece, while a teardrop cartouche carrying a raised interlace motif runs down the browband. Loops of hand-linked chainmail fall from the rim on every side, echoing the neck guards once worn on historic Turkish cavalry helmets.

Craftsmanship and Details
Worked entirely in the Ottoman armory tradition, every scroll and boss carries the mark of a single artisan's hammer and chisel. Each ring of the aventail was individually formed and linked into the brass by hand, a slow process that leaves subtle, one-of-a-kind variation across the surface. The piece rests on its own hand-hammered brass stand, finished with a dimpled, dotted texture, arriving ready to display on a shelf, desk, or cabinet without additional mounting. See less
