A. Tasha and is dated February 28, 1989–May 20, 1989.

The artist specifically notes the inspiration for the work as Mark Rothko’s No. 207, “Red Over Dark Blue on Dark Gray.” This is an original hand-painted interpretation inspired by Rothko’s celebrated Color Field work and is not a work by Mark Rothko.

Executed in acrylic, the composition features a large, intensely saturated red field surrounded by deep black, with irregular horizontal lines in earthy ochre and soft lavender running across the lower portion. The rough, expressive edges of the red field and restrained geometric composition give the painting a strong late-20th-century Postmodern and Abstract Expressionist presence.
