Rather than relying upon conventional painted line, Pourchot creates the composition through texture, repetition and tonal gradation. Irregular torn edges form a rhythmic succession of horizontal bands across the lower portion of the work, gradually dissolving into the expansive atmospheric field above. The resulting composition feels simultaneously architectural, topographical and meditative.

The work is signed “F. Pourchot” at lower right and bears an “M/P” notation at lower left.

Presented under glass with a wide neutral mat in a slender period metal frame. The reverse retains its original Ann's Place, Woodbridge, Virginia custom-framing label, an appealing piece of regional provenance.

The restrained monochromatic palette and minimalist construction make this an especially strong work for a sophisticated Mid-Century Modern, postmodern, contemporary or organic-modern interior.

Condition

Good vintage condition. Artwork presents well overall. Minor age-related discoloration/foxing and small marks are visible to the matting, particularly toward the upper and lower areas. Light wear and scattered marks to the metal frame consistent with age. Original framing paper on reverse shows normal age and handling wear. Please review photographs for condition details. See less
