Authentic vintage Locke Hi-Top electrical insulator crafted in the United States from heavy glazed porcelain. Finished in a rich dark chocolate-brown glaze, this substantial industrial artifact features a sculptural multi-tiered profile and distinctive grooved top originally designed to support electrical line conductors.
The body bears the molded “LOCKE HI-TOP 99? USA” maker’s mark, identifying it as an American-made Locke electrical insulator.
Particularly attractive as an example of vintage American industrial design, the insulator has a wonderful architectural and sculptural quality when displayed outside of its original utilitarian context. Its deep brown glossy glaze, substantial five-pound weight, and bold concentric form make it an excellent found object for an industrial, rustic, eclectic, or modern interior.
The two cream-colored areas along the top are unglazed porcelain surfaces associated with the original functional design of the insulator and are not later repairs or painted decoration.
A distinctive piece of American electrical and industrial history that works equally well as a collectible or as a standalone decorative object on a bookshelf, console, desk, or display cabinet.
DIMENSIONS:
• Height: 6 in.
• Bottom diameter: 5 1/8 in.
• Upper diameter: 3 1/2 in.
• Weight: approximately 5 lbs.
