This piece is a 19th century (circa 1860-1880) step-back hutch (kitchen cabinet). This piece is most likely constructed of mixed wood (possibly oak, ash, pine, poplar). The construction of the drawers include dovetail joints with slightly irregular shape, widely spaced. The hardware consists of cast iron latches with small porcelain knobs. Inside the doors on both the upper and lower portions of the piece have wooden rotating turn-button on the inside to secure one door of the cabinet. The top and bottom portion are two separate pieces. Simple crown molding and flat recessed panels fit nicely in country style as well as modern homes.
The piece measures 6 feet 8 inches (80 inches) in height and is 42 inches wide. The top portion of the piece is 13 inches deep, while the bottom portion is 20 inches deep.
