A striking vintage crystal bowl designed by celebrated Swedish glass artist Gunnar Cyrén for Orrefors, featuring a beautifully articulated leaf and fern motif cut deeply into substantial clear crystal.

The bowl has a particularly sculptural profile, with four pronounced divisions rising through the sides and terminating at the faceted rim. Between them, sweeping hand-cut leaves radiate around the bowl, creating an almost botanical starburst when viewed from above. The combination of bold geometric structure and organic decoration is quintessential Cyrén—restrained Scandinavian design enlivened by remarkable brilliance and movement in the crystal.

At approximately 10 inches in diameter, this is a generously scaled example and has enough presence to serve as a centerpiece on a dining table, console, coffee table, or bar. It is equally successful displayed empty, where light can move freely through the deeply cut decoration.

The underside is signed “Orrefors GC 4674 13” and the bowl retains its original Orrefors Sweden foil label.

Gunnar Cyrén (1931–2013) joined Orrefors in 1959 and became one of the company's most important postwar designers. His work is represented by elegant combinations of geometry, precision cutting, and optical effects; he later designed the celebrated Nobel stemware used at the annual Nobel Banquet in Stockholm.

Condition:
Very good vintage condition. The crystal remains bright, clear, and highly reflective. This bowl was displayed rather than used.

There is one extremely tiny interior nick, approximately pinhead-sized, that is difficult to see and was discovered primarily by touch during close inspection. It does not detract from the appearance or display of the bowl. No other chips, cracks, or significant damage noted.

A substantial and beautifully preserved example of Gunnar : work for Orrefors, combining botanical cutting with the crisp geometry and extraordinary light play associated with classic Swedish crystal design. See less
