The dramatic faceted copper shade is the centerpiece of the design. Each panel features a dimensional pierced sunflower, individually worked into the metal and surrounded by rows of tiny perforations tracing the seams and edges. When illuminated, light filters through the pierced copper to outline the flowers and construction of the shade, producing a warm, jewel-like glow. Unlit, the copper reveals an equally beautiful surface of deep bronze, russet, amber and subtly iridescent tones created by the artist's hand-applied patination.

The shade rests on a beautifully understated forged-steel base with four long, gently curving feet, giving the lamp an architectural, almost sculptural silhouette.

Collin grew up on his family's centuries-old farm in Burgundy, France, where he began experimenting with found materials and developed a particular fascination with copper. After relocating to California, he became known for his hand-fabricated copper lighting, architectural elements and sculpture. Rather than relying on computer-controlled fabrication, Collin has described his process as one of personally hammering, cutting, shaping and soldering the metal — an approach readily apparent in the wonderfully tactile construction of this piece.

His work has included custom lighting and metalwork for private residences, hotels, restaurants and other commercial spaces in the United States and Europe, as well as commissions for notable private clients.
