Made by John Grinsell & Sons of Birmingham, England, the piece bears period hallmarks and has the substantial quality and elegant proportions associated with the firm's finest desk accessories.

The inkwell features an impressive domed sterling silver lid, richly polished and adorned with an applied three-letter script monogram, “LLW.” Its restrained silver mount provides a handsome contrast against the substantial crystal body below, creating a timeless and distinctly Edwardian appearance. The heavy glass body has a wonderfully smooth, bulbous form that transitions into a deeply cut hobnail-patterned base. The numerous facets beautifully capture and refract surrounding light, producing flashes of brilliance while creating fascinating magnification effects through the thick crystal. Viewed from different angles, the piece takes on an almost jewel-like quality.
