Period Federal mahogany flip-top table with Hepplewhite styling, delicate tapered legs, decorative inlay and a folding top that opens to create a larger table surface.
The table has been reviewed from detailed photographs by Leland Little Auctions in Hillsborough, NC, who stated that it appears to be period Federal, circa 1780, and provided an auction estimate based on that attribution.
A second auction house identified the design as Federal Hepplewhite and noted that similar reproductions were also made in the late 19th and early 20th centuries; they would require an in-person inspection to definitively establish the age. We have chosen not to pursue further authentication, so it is being offered based on the information currently available.
This table was already in a historic family farmhouse/property that remained in the same family for approximately 200 years. Unfortunately, we do not have documentation establishing when or where the family acquired it.
Beautiful mahogany color with fine contrasting inlay throughout the apron, legs and table edge. The hinged top opens and is supported by the swing-out rear leg. Construction, hardware, joinery and underside are shown in the photos.
It remains in antique, unrestored condition with age-related wear, scratches and imperfections consistent with its history. It has not been refinished or restored. Please review all photos closely for condition. More photos available, please message to request them.
