Mid Century Porcelain ashtray from the historic Nikkatsu Hotel in Tokyo, Japan.

The Nikkatsu Hotel, opened in 1952, was the first modern hotel built in Tokyo after WWII.
Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio stayed there during their honeymoon in 1954 and many other famous people stayed there. The hotel closed in 1970 and the building became an office building until it was demolished in 2004 to make way for a new Peninsula Hotel.
A businessman brought the ashtray to the United States after a business trip to Japan in
1960. The Noritake logo of the time appears on the underside. That logo was used until 1963.
The ashtray measures approximately 4.75” in diameter, 1” high.
A rare and fantastic find for a collector!
