Complete and intact, two vintage Masonic book editions, each featuring incisive histories and unique features designed specifically for Masonic members. This oversized pair, weighing over 12 lbs together, is an excellent example of each and fits well in a Dark Academia & Traditional, Grand-Millennial & Maximalist style presentation. The bundle includes BOOK ONE: published in 1898; the rare Fifty Years of Masonry in California, Volume II, by Edwin A. Sherman; and a primary antiquarian resource on this subject found nowhere else. It is a documentary filled with membership names, images of great archival significance tracing the establishment and progress of California Masonic lodges and their members. In its original form, spanning fifty years, it traces Freemasonry's origins in California and explores its many founding members, lodges, and chapters. It also includes a section on a widowed Women’s Home and Orphanage, plus expansive sections on the origins of the Royal Arch Masonry Cryptic Rite of Royal and Select Masters; the origins of the Ancient Knighthood and the Crusades; the Knights Templar in California; and more. The book fulfills a destiny timeline of American presidents and notable citizens, highlighting fascinating anecdotes and pioneer stories, including members' reminiscences of adventures and first arrivals to California. It is a valuable genealogical resource for anyone interested in the social history of California Freemasonry, with stories of immigrants settling in California, moving from Europe and Canada, and contributing to the cultural history of the latter half of the 19th Century. Some participated in the Mexican War and the period following the 1849 California Gold Rush and California's statehood in 1850.
BOOK TWO: 1951 Hertel Masonic Family Bible with no writing on the entry pages, a clean, oversized edition with gilt page edges, and seemingly untouched, with little sign of use. The illustrated Family Edition Holy Bible has blue, semi-soft, cleanable covers and binding. There is no writing, tears, stains, or creases throughout. This exceptionally fine example includes valuable, memorable written histories on many facets of Masonry, and is specific to United States history, reflecting Masonic rites and beliefs. The Bible's pristine condition makes it an important item for collectors and those interested in fraternal organizations such as Freemasonry.
