This professionally framed diptych features two original, hand-signed works by Humberto Mayol, one of Cuba's most distinguished contemporary photographers. These images serve as a vital visual record of the Jewish community in Cienfuegos, Cuba, documenting the endurance of ritual in the diaspora.
Composition: The left photograph captures the Havdalah ritual objects—the braided candle, spice box (besamim), and Kiddush cup. The right photograph captures the Shabbat candle lighting.
Artistic Style: Mayol utilizes a sophisticated digital post-processing technique to achieve a "painterly" aesthetic. The high-contrast, warm lighting emphasizes the sacred nature of the objects, giving them a timeless, chiaroscuro quality.
Signatures: Each print is hand-inscribed "Cienfuegos - Cuba" (lower left) and signed "H. Mayol" (lower right) in archival ink.
