While working on The Nocturnal Hour of Violent Blooming, I gradually realized that the painting was no longer responding like a conventional composition. Each new layer generated another possibility, every gesture transformed the balance of the whole, until the surface began to behave like a living organism. Nothing here illustrates flowers or vegetation, yet the painting slowly acquired an unmistakable vegetal corporeality—as if matter itself had entered a continuous state of blooming.
That experience became the true subject of the work.
Built through successive layers of mixed media, translucent veils, calligraphic gestures and subtle material textures, the composition never settles into a fixed image. Forms emerge only to dissolve again, luminous passages reveal hidden structures before disappearing into deeper atmospheric fields, and every chromatic transition suggests another stage in an unfinished metamorphosis. Light does not illuminate the painting from outside; it seems to originate from within, moving through the layers like a living presence that continuously reshapes the visual experience.
This painting belongs to my ongoing series Between the Dark and Divine and forms part of The Mindscape Codex, an evolving body of work dedicated to perception, memory and metaphysical abstraction. At the centre of this research lies what I describe as The Aesthetics of Improbable Configurations: the search for those rare moments when colour, gesture, transparency, texture and light unexpectedly discover their own internal harmony. Beauty is never imposed upon the painting. It emerges naturally when seemingly unrelated elements organize themselves into an inevitable visual order.
It preserves the memory of every decision embedded within its many layers while remaining permanently open to new interpretations. Each prolonged contemplation reveals relationships that were previously invisible, creating the impression that the work continues to transform long after the final brushstroke.
The Nocturnal Hour of Violent Blooming is an original, one-of-a-kind mixed media painting on canvas, created in 2026. Professionally varnished for long-term conservation, signed on the front and back, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, it is shipped worldwide directly from my studio in Romania. More than a finished image, it is an invitation to inhabit a space where matter, light and memory continue their silent transformation.
