This large-format, vertical enamel panel is a characteristic work of enamel art: We see a vibrant, hand-fired, multi-layered enamel surface adorned with organic motifs, floral forms, and symbolic figures.
At the center of the composition is a mandala-like, explosive form around which vibrant red, turquoise, yellow, and deep blue elements cluster. The entire surface of the panel consists of tiny, speckled enamel layers, dots, raised areas, and translucent glazed sections—a particularly labor-intensive technique requiring a multi-stage firing process.
The animal motifs in the lower section (stylized birds, snakes, and an organic network of lines) suggest archaic, folk art influences, while the square decorative border near the edge of the composition provides a delicate frame.
The signature can be read in the lower left corner of the panel:
Bika, indicating the name of the enamel artist, Borbála Scholz-Bika, written in a handwriting typical of this era.
This piece belongs to the group of enamel panels from the 1960s that are highly sought after again today by enthusiasts of decorative interiors and collectors of Mid-Century Modern style.
