Hand-woven in the last quarter of the 1800s, this rug is a testament to the enduring craftsmanship and refined aesthetic that made Ziegler Mahal Sultanabad carpets world-renowned. This beautiful antique rug features a captivating all-over pattern of large geometric motifs, reminiscent of the bold and revered designs found in 19th-century Persian Bidjar and Serapi rugs. The design is set against a rich and inviting abrash brick red or burgundy color field. The natural ""abrash"" effect, a result of the skillful use of vegetable dyes, creates subtle and harmonious color variations that add depth, authenticity, and a unique character to the field. The use of vibrant saffron color in the narrow inner and outer borders adds tremendously to the beauty and sophistication of this fine carpet, perfectly framing the intricate central design.
