The rich palette of red, French blue, pink, green, and golden yellow highlights the intricate pattern, creating a piece of remarkable depth and visual energy. Bidjar rugs, woven by Kurdish village artisans in the mountainous Bidjar region of Northwest Persia, are celebrated worldwide as the 'Iron Rugs of Persia' — a reputation earned through a unique wetting technique applied during weaving that compresses the wool to twice the density of ordinary rugs. The resulting textile is extraordinarily durable, heavy in hand, and resistant to wear in a way no other rug tradition can match. A Bidjar of this early 20th century vintage, with its full pile and vibrant natural dye palette, represents the tradition at its most accomplished.
