Released in 1949 as Shape No. 559, this sculptural set brilliantly embodies the post-war Asian-Modern and Hollywood Regency "Chinoiserie" design movements that swept through mid-century American interiors. This pair features the rare and highly collectible Celestial Blue (Turquoise) high-gloss glaze. The glossy background contrasts beautifully with the hand-painted, knobby brown bonsai branches that gracefully extend outward to form functional, structural handles. Billowing, high-relief clouds of textured, pastel-pink cherry blossoms sit gracefully atop the mountain-shaped forms. The reverse sides feature a fully factory-glazed, smooth light-blue finish. Raised mark on base: "Roseville U.S.A. 559" See less
