A generous arrangement of red poppy-like blooms and creamy yellow flowers rises from a warm ochre vase against a deep brown interior. The painter used substantial impasto through the blossoms and portions of the vase, giving the relatively small painting wonderful dimension and presence.

The restrained palette, dark tonal ground and naturally aged frame give the piece the collected character of a European-inspired country interior. It would be especially lovely incorporated into a traditional gallery wall, English country room, cottage interior or layered maximalist setting.

The work is unsigned on the face. The initials “A.B.” appear handwritten on the reverse backing, although their origin and meaning are unknown; the artist is therefore listed as unidentified.

Construction of the frame, backing, nails and hanging hardware, together with the painting style, suggests an early-to-mid 20th century date, approximately the 1920s–1940s.

The painted surface is exceptionally well preserved with strong dimensional impasto and no obvious cracking, flaking or significant paint loss. The gilt-toned frame retains attractive age-related wear, rubbing and finish loss consistent with its period.
