An exceptional French late-19th-century aneroid wall barometer housed in a substantial, deeply turned wood "pocket watch" style frame.
This historical instrument features a brass bezel framing a paper dial with classical French meteorological terminology (Tempête, Variable, Beau Fixe). The center features an open "skeleton" glass aperture that exposes the intricate, hand-assembled internal brass mechanism, levers, and aneroid capsule.
The bottom of the dial bears the inscription "30 Rue du Bac," referencing its historic origin in Paris's 7th Arrondissement. During the late 1800s, this prestigious address served as the headquarters of the Club Alpin Français, where scientific field instruments were provided to French explorers, alpine geologists, and mountaineers.
Fitted with an integrated brass top ring for hanging, this piece offers a rich visual patina on both the brass bezel and wood casing, making it a striking addition to a library, executive study, or gallery wall.
