The dramatic patriotic composition depicts a uniformed Army bugler sounding the call to arms before a billowing American flag. The image was adapted from a sculpture by Italian-American sculptor Edoardo Cammilli, whose attribution appears within the poster. Published to encourage enlistment and national service during World War I, the work is a striking example of early 20th-century American military and propaganda poster design.
