This quaint and restful piece by noted Austrian painter Rudolf Klingsbogl (1881-1943) is an early 20th century depiction of the historic Waldhausen Abbey in upper Austria.

Born in Vienna, Klingsbögl refined his craft by taking study trips to major art hubs like Paris and Munich. He was not only an active painter but also the founder of a highly regarded painting school in Vienna. He had a brother, Hermann Klingsbögl (1894–1943), who was also a painter.

Klingsbogl is known for his genre scenes of everyday life - here he portrays a traveler’s first glimpse of the beautiful early-Baroque Augustinian chapel and surrounding monastery. It is perhaps early afternoon - the countryside is quietly satisfied under a warming summer sun, and accompanied by bee humming is the not-so distant peal of the Angelus bells - a timeless scene unperturbed by looming War.
