This is an original 25-page, 14x11 inch master score portfolio for "Canzone for Double Brass Quartet," composed by American composer and pianist Allen Brings (1934–2020). Hand-dated April 6, 1960, at Annandale-on-Hudson, the manuscript features the dedication Ad maiorem gloriam Dei.The portfolio is printed on 20-stave manuscript paper by Circle Blue Print Co., New York, and exhibits Brings' highly detailed notation and complex meter changes ($2+3$, $6$, $2+2+3$).Crucially, it includes an original, typed cover letter signed by Allen Brings, dated May 10, 1972, addressed to conductor Leonard Pearlman at the Peabody Conservatory, pitching the piece for its "first public performance." The cover page includes light pencil notes querying the composer. A rare artifact connecting a prominent academic composer to a legendary conservatory conductor.
