A solitary figure sits at the water's edge under a deep cobalt sky, worked in translucent, pooled, dragged and scraped pigmented wax that catches light like nothing a brush can do. The dimensional wax surface is the whole pleasure of the piece — it rewards a raking light and a close look.

Signed "C. Burns," incised directly into the wax; the artist's own handwritten verso label names the medium. Unframed on artist's board, exactly as mid-century collectors prefer it — lean it on a shelf or float it in a simple frame. One of a kind.
