This elegant French decorative tray was likely crafted in France around 1880–1910 using an earlier hand-colored stipple engraving after Jean-Honoré Fragonard's The Happy Family, dating approximately 1775–1810. During the late Victorian and Belle Époque eras, it was fashionable to repurpose older engravings or prints salvaged from damaged books by mounting them beneath glass in silk-lined trays, preserving beautiful artwork as functional décor. The tray features richly patterned pink silk, ornate braid trim, and a protective glass covering over the period print, making it equally beautiful displayed on a vanity, coffee table, or bookshelf.
