A classic Neoclassical revival, Grand Tour Italian terracotta-patinated reproduction of The Abduction of a Sabine Woman (often called The Rape … Read more A classic Neoclassical revival, Grand Tour Italian terracotta-patinated reproduction of The Abduction of a Sabine Woman (often called The Rape of the Sabine Women), a masterpiece by the late-Renaissance/Mannerist Flemish sculptor Giambologna.
The original, monumental 13-foot marble sculpture was completed in 1583 and sits in the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, Italy.

The sculpture depicts a famous legend from Rome's founding history. Lacking women to populate his new city, Romulus invited the neighboring Sabine tribe to a festival and ordered the mass abduction of their young women. The sculpture condenses this drama into three figures:
Made of plaster /or marble dust treated with a custom terracotta patina to look like traditional fired clay, raised on the square black base.
