This exceptional antique Persian Sarouk-Farahan (Feraghan) carpet, dating to circa 1870 or before, represents the pinnacle of 19th-century tribal-court weaving. Crafted during the celebrated "pre-commercial" era, it embodies an artistic purity and meticulous craftsmanship reserved for the Persian aristocracy rather than the Western export market.
The Ivory Field & Medallion: At the heart of the carpet lies an open, luminous ivory field, which beautifully highlights a sharply stepped, elongated central medallion. The terracotta-rust medallion is intricately filled with delicate, scrolling floral vines that seem to grow organically across the canvas.
The Majestic Boteh Spandrels: Anchoring the four corners are large, elegantly curved Boteh motifs (the ancient Persian symbol of life and eternity that inspired the paisley pattern). Drawn with incredible precision, each boteh is lushly detailed with internal floral sprays, framed by a midnight-indigo sky.
The Herati Border: The main border features a classical repeating rosette and palmette vine scroll over a rich, earthy rust ground, acting as a sophisticated frame to the vibrant central composition.
