The artwork depicts an elegant classical scene reminiscent of The Tale of Genji. Four court princesses or noblewomen are rendered in exquisite detail, draped in elaborate historical 12-layer kimonos (jūnihitoe). They are set against a sweeping landscape of dense, blooming cherry blossoms, accented with shimmering metallic gold highlights that catch the light beautifully.
Acquisition and Chain of Custody:
This Japanese Sogara Yuzen Washi paper panel was acquired locally in my region from a local thrift shop. I reside in a prominent retirement destination state. Because of this demographic, local estate sales and high-end downsizing events frequently yield authentic, gallery-purchased Mid-Century and late 20th-century Asian art and decor that original owners brought with them from across the country.
Item Representation & Authenticity:
While I do not possess the original gallery invoice from the initial owner, I have personally inspected the piece. It is an authentic, hand-silkscreened Sogara Yuzen paper sheet featuring traditional multi-colored registration and metallic detailing depicting Heian-period court figures. The piece is physically in my possession, custom-framed under glass with a decorative bamboo-style frame, and is in excellent vintage condition, exactly as pictured.
