A highly collectible piece of European art pottery, this striking double-handled ceramic vase was manufactured by the famed Ditmar Urbach factory in Turn-Teplitz, Czechia, during the height of the Art Deco era.
Referred to by avid vintage pottery enthusiasts as "Alienware," this distinct line is celebrated for its otherworldly, highly stylized forms and unusual glaze applications. The bulbous body features deep, relief-molded panels depicting elongated, avant-garde fish finished in a rich, dark metallic glaze. The vessel is enveloped in a heavily mottled, cream-and-terracotta crackle finish that provides a beautiful tactile contrast.
Flanked by two rugged, sculptural handles, this specific Model 8197 vessel features its authenticated design number cleanly incised into the unglazed base ring. An exceptional statement piece that perfectly captures the moody, expressive nature of Eastern European Art Deco design.
