Designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard around 1954, this exceptional Anker-Line enameled cast iron casserole represents one of the designer's earliest and most important works, created just before his celebrated Købenstyle collection for Dansk established him as a leading figure of Scandinavian Modern design.
Produced in Denmark by De Forenede Jernstøberier, this complete example retains its original iron serving stand wrapped in handwoven rattan with elegant teak legs. Conceived as sophisticated "oven-to-table" cookware, the stand allowed the hot casserole to move seamlessly from the kitchen to the dining table, reflecting Quistgaard's philosophy that functional objects should also be beautiful.
Finished in a rich cobalt blue enamel, the sculptural form is as striking today as it was seventy years ago. More than cookware, it is an enduring example of Danish industrial design, balancing craftsmanship, utility, and timeless aesthetics. Examples from the Anker-Line collection are represented in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, underscoring the line's lasting design significance.
A remarkable piece for collectors of Scandinavian Modern, Danish design, or anyone seeking an authentic statement piece for the kitchen or dining room.
