This is not the more commonly seen open-frame Antimott chair. What sets this one apart is the cane-paneled body: the woven cane is not just a small insert or simple back panel, but forms the visual body of the chair across the sides and back. It gives the chair a much warmer, more architectural look from every angle.

The underside retains the metal label marked “KNOLL ANTIMOTT ges. gesch.” The German label language supports German manufacture, and Antimott is associated with the Wilhelm / Walter Knoll furniture line. A beautiful European mid-century modern chair with strong designer presence, but still very livable.

Condition is excellent to near-mint vintage condition. This chair presents as exceptionally well cared for, with beautiful cane, clean corduroy upholstery, a solid frame. The fabric looks barely used, if at all. Minor wear on the arms, and some scuffs on the legs. The woven cane presents beautifully.

A wonderful chair for a reading corner, living room, bedroom, office, sunroom, studio, or collected modernist interior. It has the warmth of natural cane and wood, with the clean shape and restraint you want from good mid-century design. See less
