A vibrant, hand-signed kinetic agamograph titled Under Seascape by Yaacov Agam (Israeli, 1928–2026), the pioneer of Op and Kinetic art whose name became the term for this very medium. The work from circa the 1980s or 90s is printed on a ribbed lenticular surface: the image shifts, dissolves, and recombines as the viewer moves past it — a dense, watery field of vertical color bands scattered with circles, ellipses, triangles, and rectangles in magenta, red, blue, purple, and black that evoke light moving through the sea.
Hand-signed "Agam" in pencil at lower right and hand-numbered 10/99 in pencil at lower left, from the edition of 99. Titled Under Seascape on the verso. Presented in the artist's signature white shadowbox frame, which floats the work so the kinetic effect reads from every angle.
Born Yaacov Gibstein in Rishon LeZion, Agam studied color theory under Bauhaus master Johannes Itten and exhibited alongside Calder and Tinguely at Galerie Denise René in Paris in the 1950s. The highest-selling Israeli artist of his generation, he was the subject of retrospectives at the Musée National d'Art Moderne (1972) and the Guggenheim (1980); his work is held in the Centre Pompidou and MoMA, and the Yaacov Agam Museum of Art opened in his hometown in 2017. Agam received the Israel Prize for Visual Arts shortly before his death in 2026. A striking, movement-driven statement piece for a modern interior.
The area of the artwork is approx. 11.25 x 15.5. The frame is 25.5 x 21.
