This antique oil on canvas portrait titled "Blonde Girl" is by listed American Ashcan School artist Amy Londoner (1875–1953). Painted circa 1930, this expressive and texturally rich piece comes with extraordinary, intact historical provenance affixed to the reverse. Exhibition History & Provenance: The back of the canvas features three original period labels that beautifully document its journey through the historic 1930s New York avant-garde art scene. An exhibition label reading: "For exhibition in the Opportunity Gallery East 56 street New York City." (The Opportunity Gallery was a famous incubator for American Modernism where artists like Mark Rothko and Milton Avery also got their start). A handwritten studio label: "Artist Amy Londoner, Hotel Endicott, New York City," anchoring the piece to her historic Upper West Side studio residency. A typed gallery label stating: "This painting is being shown as a courtesy of Morton Gallery," a prestigious contemporary NYC gallery of the era. Amy Londoner was a student of Robert Henri and John Sloan, a notable female voice of the Ashcan movement, and an exhibitor at the seminal 1913 Armory Show.
