Pair of LC1 "Basculant" Armchairs by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret & Charlotte Perriand, manufactured by Treitel-Gratz, USA
An exceptional pair of LC1 armchairs, originally designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, manufactured by Treitel-Gratz — the New York metalworking firm known for producing early American editions of European modernist designs, predating Cassina's official licensed production. Tubular chrome-plated steel frames support brown leather slings with adjustable tilting backrests, the hallmark of the original Basculant design.
This pair is unmarked, consistent with many surviving examples of the period; attribution and authenticity are supported by provenance from a private Cleveland collection, acquired at auction.
They are in great vintage condition with age appropriate patinas. One chair has a small quarter sized impression on seat. Overall set presents well.
