An exceptional custom executive desk commissioned in 1988 for a private buyer and handcrafted for Don Ruseau’s New York workshop. This one-of-a-kind desk exemplifies the meticulous craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and extraordinary attention to detail for which Don Ruseau became known.
Beautifully constructed in richly figured hardwood with a fitted glass writing surface, the desk features traditional dovetailed drawer construction, elegant proportions, and an ingenious system of concealed false-bottom drawers incorporated into nearly every drawer. These hidden compartments were intentionally designed as part of the original commission and remain fully functional.
Included with the desk are the original typed installation instructions dated March 21, 1988, documenting the numbered drawer system, hidden compartments, key locations, and operating instructions. Also included are the original Don Ruseau care instructions and the original keys. The survival of these original documents provides an unusual level of provenance for a bespoke commission and offers a fascinating glimpse into the desk’s original installation and use.
