Salvaged beam … Read more The Volcano Lamp is a hand-carved wood and marble table lamp from the Melting Collection by Gabor Gobi. Salvaged beam wood, darkened to near-black by the Yakisugi charring process, is joined to white marble remnants in a form that feels as much geological as it does constructed. Rather than resolving the difference between stone and scorched timber, the object holds it — a compact piece whose material weight reads beyond its physical size.

Each object is sourced before it is shaped — beam wood and marble fragments, each carrying evidence of a prior existence. The wood is charred using the Yakisugi technique, then dressed with natural oils and sealed in beeswax. A cork layer protects surfaces beneath.

The finished surface carries sustained tension: flowing marble and near-black wood apparently merged under slow force. The beeswax seal deepens the surface, which reads differently at different times of day.
